Nearly a third of Major League Baseball franchises have changed managers this offseason, and some of the choices have been a little on the weird side.

The San Diego Padres picked a former relief pitcher who began on the other side of the hiring process as a member of the front office, only to become a candidate for the job himself. The Los Angeles Angels went with someone who had precisely zero coaching experience of any kind. And the Washington Nationals’ new skipper is all of 33 years old, making him the youngest person to manage in the majors in more than half a century.
